Clothes Closet

We collect new and like-new clothes and let our foster families shop for free. Clothing foster children is sometimes a financial burden for foster parents. We want our foster children to be confident and proud of their clothes at school.

- Community members: You can donate clothes, or help us sort and organize our clothes at BigHouse! We are currently collecting winter clothing only. We especially need boys' size 6/7 pants, teen boys' shirts, jeans/pants, and jackets, junior girls' jeans, junior girls' Large and XL tops, and girls' size Large and XL pants, sweaters, and dresses.

- Foster parents: You can stop by BigHouse during our office hours (9am-5pm Mon. - Thurs.) or call to make an appointment if you need to shop at a different time. We also have some sports equipment such as cleats, dance shoes/leotards, and baseball gloves. Always check with us before you go out buy something!

Birthday Club

We collect new toys for birthday presents for the foster children in Lee County. We send them a birthday card with a token to pick out a toy or gift card for their birthday. We want our foster children to feel special on their birthday. This is their special day and no one can take that away from them.

- Community members: You can donate new toys or $10 gift cards!

- Foster parents: make sure we have updated information on the kids in your home, including their birthdate and your address so we can be sure they get a card.

Tutoring

BigHouse wants to offer tutoring to all the foster children in Lee County. Sometimes foster children get behind in their schoolwork. We want to assist the foster parents in helping them get caught up. Whether it’s letting a child read to you, helping with homework, or helping with high school math, we will need volunteers who are willing to spend a little time after school to help out.

- Community members: If you are interested in volunteering as a tutor, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or call 334-363-3634.

- Foster parents: if you have a child or teen would benefit from tutoring, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or call 334-363-2634. We have volunteers who can meet you at BigHouse or another public place, such as a library, once a week.

Kids' Night Out

BigHouse provides respite events to give foster parents a break! Whether they need to run errands, have a date night with their spouse, or just have some down-time, having a few hours without the kids can refresh parents and help them deal with the stress of foster parenting. While the parents are gone, kids enjoy food and fun with our staff and volunteers!

- Community Members: you can volunteer to help with Kids' Night Out by clicking on the links found HERE. You can also make a donation to help with the cost of food and other supplies by clicking HERE. We spend an average of $100 on food for each Kids' Night Out, as well as $100-$200 to run background checks on each new volunteer ($10 per person).

- Foster parents: Each Kids' Night Out is FREE and open to all the kids in your home (babies - 18 years old). The location for the events will be announced in the parent e-newsletter, on the BigHouse Parents facebook group, and through phone calls. For safety reasons, we do not post locations on this website. We require you to RSVP by phone, facebook, or email so that we can plan accordingly with food and activities.
